I have a simple HT system and have been using my Rotel receiver for audio - optical cables from my Denon 3910 DVD player and HDTV cable box so I can make use of my speakers when watching/listening to TV and movies. I don't use the receiver for video switching, just as a bridge to my 5.1 speakers set up.I am not displeased with my Rotel receiver, but wondered if there was a better receiver available that has a good tuner (my partner likes to listen to the radio) and excellent audio capabilities. Used is more than fine; I would rather only spend about $1000.
Follow Ups:
I also use a RSX1055, but have added separate amps for my L/C/R speakers. Using an Aragon 8008BB to drive Paradigm Studio 60s, and an Aragon 8002 to vertically passive bi-amp a Paradigm CC570 center. Like you, just using it for audio. The Rotel is a nice sounding receiver, although it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of newer ones. Mine doesn't offer the ability to set different x-overs tothe mains vs center, etc.; I keep all set at small/80Hz. And the tuner does suck, but I use a Squeezebox for internet radio, so no big deal. If you like the Rotel sound, maybe just add extra Rotel amplification? You could ask over at the Tuner asylum about the radio question.
Seems to me the smooth, slightly rolled off sound of the Rotel amps in the receiver, also translate through the preouts, which has helped with the Aragon/Paradigm match up.
Here's a review of the 1055's replacement, take it with a grain of salt though, the reviewer complains that it doesn't drive his $10,000 ML as well as it could :) He also complained about the tuner.
I actually do have a Rotel power amp (RMB 1095 I beleive,) but I don't use it - I don't have room for it in my current system configuration.I think I'll just keep the Rotel - it is very nice looking and the sound is quite decent, guess I just had a sudden attack of upgraditis!

I was too late, Late! Already sold when I checked it out. Thanks, though!
It's a very good receiver at its pricepoint. I had one, and I really liked it. I regret selling it. Going up in price gets you more gadgets that you probably don't need (fancier video switching, many more inputs, etc.). Plus, the remote that comes with the Rotel is very good, and easy to program.
