My friends son wants to get an HDTV around 40" and wants to spend around $1500. Picture quality is most important. I've been out of the loop for a while, so mates I'd appreciate your help.
TIA!
Chris

I would try cnet or a google search on reviews of hdtv. The cnet review is free and good industry review. You can also try the consumer report. I got a Vizio L42 at the Sam's club. It is now $1200. It gives a good picture for not too much dough. Sony is arguably the best PQ, but it is among the most expensive.
Cnet will give you the review if you search by model and brand.
Good luck hunting.

Westinghouse LVM-42W2 42" LCD(paste below)
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the info. I looked at the bdescription of the Westing. I dont always trust what the manufacturer claims to be the horizontal resolution. I'll have to look up some reviews on this unit. Also would like to find out the true refresh rate is because some LCD's are poor in this area.
Here's a review from Audioholicshttp://www.audioholics.com/productreviews/avhardware/westinghouse-LVM-42w2p1.php
and AVS has several threads on the Westinghouse in the link below.
