I didn't have much success searching the archives, but maybe I'm just not very good at searching. If there was a recent discussion of this, just point me to the thread.I am looking for suggestions for a DVD player/burner for my computer. I don't really care if it has CDRW built in or not. I don't know if there are technical reasons why a single purpose machine might be preferable.
The only real requirements:
1) reliably burning DVDs
2) burned discs play on most name brand DVD players (Philips, Panasonic, Sony, etc)
3) must read/play PAL as well as NTSCI would prefer that it come bundled with DVD burning software, but if it does, it must be able to convert PAL to NTSC. If it does not come with the software, a recommendation for software would be appreciated as well.
Are there other issues that I should be aware of?
Follow Ups:
Get a DVD recorder that can change the bit-setting/book-type of DVD+R discs. By doing this, over 95% of stand-alone DVD players will see the burned media as a DVD-ROM (a la movie DVDs). This is only available with the +R format.Plextor has several new writers that you may want to check out.
