I've pretty much decided on a 50" Panasonic, but see prices on the internet that are more than $500 under local dealers. These are dealers with good ratings on Projector Central, but I wonder if the hassel is worth it if the unit proves defective. I'd appreciate hearing about experiences with remote purchases of plasma. Someone must be buying from these sites.I suppose the 1.5 hour drive from Santa Barbara to LA might be worth it; there must be a lot more competition down there. Any ideas about where to shop in the LA or SF Valley area would be welcome?

........G’day,I would suggest you phone around the local dealers to find the ones who have the size and current model you want in stock. Then take cash of the exact amount the internet dealer is offering to sell you the screen for and offer it to the dealer.
IME I have found the dealer will reluctantly take the SURE sale.
The last plasma I bought was a 55” Fujitsu and I found the best price I could online then deducted 10 % off that again and offered that amount to the local dealer. He refused at first and said he couldn’t possibly sell the screen at the price I wanted to pay. However, the very next day he phoned and said he would sell me the screen at that price as he wanted to keep me as a customer. I bought the screen that day.
Here in Australia the recommended retail price of that particular screen was over 70% HIGHER than what I actually paid.
Good luck

I bought my 42"Nec plasma online from an authorized dealer and received it in great shape. Just make sure the etailer is authorized for the brand you wish to purchase. Some brands will only honor the warranty if bought from an authorized dealer.
