Are you sure that the DVD player's settings are set correctly for progressive scan? Chaeck the manual yo see what you are supposed to do.

Yep - DVD player is easy to set to progressive scan once the DVD is stopped, and back again to interlaced; the screen does indicate 'progressive' and 'interlaced' when they are selected.
Your TV may just have a better de-interlacer than the DVD player.

You could be right - I've been reading an old review of the Toshiba where the progressive scan capability is criticised harshly.Soon be getting a decent upscaling Denon or Pioneer with HDMI so the Tosh can go in the bedroom system.
