You should look into an Arcam AVR300.

You can find them used for $1200-1500. Great solution for music and HT. Sounds better than any other AVR receiver I've heard and you'd have to go to high quality separates (and more $$$) to beat it.

This is a 1st choice for music lovers. The Arcam AVR350 is a bit better if you have high end speakers, but it's more expensive, plus you're not going to find one used since it's relatively new to the market.
