The Dolby Digital codec specs allow for a number of channel formats including mono and stereo and four cahnnel in addition to 5.1. If you get a movie with just two channel stereo it can be greatly enhanced by choosing Dolby Pro Logic II Music, which derives 5 channels from 2 and gives a semblense of surround dound. Although many "old" stereo movies are remastered in 5.1, not all are.
