I have updated my display to a 34 widescreen crt by Sony. It has an
HDMI input and 2 component video inputs. My dvdplayer has the three
colour component output. The second is a HTPC with an ATI Radeon 850
Pro video card. The video card has a DVI output as well as a three
colour component output (along side the vga). Am I better off using
its component adapter to cables or using some form of DVI to HDMI
adapter and going to the HDMI input straight with a DVI-HDMI cable via the video cards DVI output.Any opinions welcome !

Since the DVD player's best output will be YPbPr (component), use this connection on the player.Does the video card have the option of sending digital video levels (16-235) to the display, as opposed to digital PC levels (0-255)? If so, I'd go with the DVI output as PC levels clip below black and peak white signals (that's a bad thing). If it doesn't, check the output from the YPbPr component connection. If it allows for below black and peak white, use that connection. If it doesn't, I would try both of the options on the video card (DVI and YPbPr component) and subjectively decide which output gives you the better picture.
