But...I'm looking for a mid-level, - but still great HDMI cable to go from my DirecTV box to my new Hitachi HDTV LCD. I have two HDMI inputs, so I'll need a second to run out of my APL Denon.
Any recommendations? I want good quality, but not crazy money that pushes up above $500. I need a pretty long throw as well: at least 14 feet.

I use this between the Esoteric DV-60 and 46" Sony LCD. But I've also used it with a NAD DVD player and 40" Sony XBR LCD TV.I don't know whether it's the cable, the player(s), or the monitors, but I can readily see the differences in picture quality. I guess, in this sense, the AQ HDMI-3 is doing its job.
My best man uses the Wireworld Starlight 5 HDMI between an Arcam universal player and Samsung DLP TV. We were just watching his kid's Baby Einstein stuff, but the whites seemed bright, not dull or flushed out.
Between the AQ and Wireworld HDMI cables, I don't think you can go wrong.

I think a 1m AQ HDMI-3 lists for $250, while the Wireworld Starlight 5 is $200.With the video equipment I've used, it's kind of a toss-up, between HDMI and component video. My Dish box has a DVI output, but I dunno, the picture quality is kind of, well, kind of like a computer. The colors aren't as "real life," and motion can be jittery. So I go with component video for Dish.
But on the Esoteric DV-60, it needs HDMI to upconvert to the highest rates. So I go with HDMI on the DV-60.
I know I have to do some work on my own too, - so I appreciate your thoughts....I'm thinking that I am going to buy an AudioQuest HDMI X or a HDMI 1 and then compare that to the RAM cable...
Have you compared any of the models in the AQ HDMI line? They have four different ones and I'm definitely staying away from the more expensive ones....

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the designs are similar, but as you go higher up, the conductors are silver. I bought mine used. In fact, I bought the S-3 S-video cable used, too. A colleague did have an RCA-to-S adapter, so I was able to use the Cable Cooker on the S-3. Did that do anything? Since I didn't have another S-3 to compare to, heck if I know.No one has an adapter for the HDMI, so no Cooking there. Also, we have no video cables longer than 2-meters. If you're asking if long lengths are different from shorter ones, I am not able to say.
The AQ HDMI-3 seems fine to me. Whether it's the equipment or the cable, we're able to see the differences in filming quality on DVDs.
I think one can even more readily pick up the differences (with eye closed, pun intended) if we test both hdmi cables with audio materials.in many cases, users equate video artifacts as "improvements".
Because I use HDMI for video only, I can't answer that. I run the DVD players' left and right analog outputs into stereo preamps. I have no idea how good or bad the D/A converters are in monitors and receivers.

Try Bettercables.com, I use them.
Their HDMI cables are pretty good, but not stupid expensive. What makes them decent, is their connectors-they grip really well, with no wiggle or loosening.
