The common factor here is all of us who responded are impressed with the Sony SXRD picture. Good luck and happy hunting!
Follow Ups:
no...i actually came out with an idea or two. I am going to check out that Sony XXXXX2000 50" SXRD unit and i am going to try to find a JVC ND-ILA unit to look at. I've always been a fan of JVC stuff, both consomer and professional lines. Right now i am calling one of my local best buys to see if they have these models but funny thing. No one is answering the phone. Going on 25 rings now...ok, i just got hung up on.
very good reviews, you may want to check them out too.
i think i am a bit turned off by projection technology. Don't know if i can tolerate the darkened corners of the screen adn the very limited viewing angle. Picture wise...it's better than LCD front projection, i belive, though.
& WD65732 65" & 57" DLP screens, for $23 & 2900 respectively. Looked like a good image. BTW, Fry's salesman had none too good things to say about SXRD technologyt. He showed me a 60" Sony unit with yellowing blue around center of screen. It covered a good 1/5th of the screen. He said he's heard of many issues with SXRD technology. Yeah yeah, a Fry's salesman saying all this...but he did know alot about different technologies that i quizzed him on.
I've got the Sony 60" SXRD XBR2 and in a previous post compared it to the Mitsubishi (I was at my local Sound Advice/Tweeter for hours, they almost set me up in the back room) - I will say that there are more tweaks available with the Mitsu, and the picture was stellar but I preferred the Sony set hands down simply because of the clarity and contrast which was slighly better. I've had it for about 3 months now and the picture is tremendous. No bluing issues or green blobs, just a stellar LCoS picture and I can tell you in conjunctin with my Sony 9000es with only the 480P output (audioquest component cables), some of my better recorded DVD's or Super Bit discs have a very near HD look to me at least compared to the down converted cable TV sorts. Of course if I had and HD/blu ray player to compare side by side it wouldn't be, but compared to the signal I'm seeing on the HD cable channels (HDHBO, Discovery, TNT etc..., it's very close and it's only the better recoreded discs that I'm seeing this with and was actually very suprised to see this.
I thought the JVC D-ILA's looked better that Sony SXRD and prefer Plasma over all of them but the new DLP's with LED backlighting should also be very good.
Lots of issues with the first SXRD TVs. The infamous "green blob". Some people had it, others didn't. It was a warm-up/temperature issue. Sony denied it existed. They ended up replacing lots of optical blocks, something they no longer do. Supposedly, the SXRD 2 has the problem fixed.

I don't know how it is, but itwill be slim-so" will be 10 inches deep. 65" slightly more.

The Sony 50" SXRD KDS50A2000 looked a bit better than the JVC HD-ILA comparable version. I especially noticed when they showed pseudo PC screen shots with Folder names that were rather small but deciferable enough to notice that the Sony showed the letters to be a bit more clean.
One thing i didn't like about the LCoS displays was the darkness around the corners of the screen and the dispersment of darkness across the screen when viewed at a slight angle, whether be to the side or vertical. I guess that's what makes it a projection unit. The XBRs were WAY too bright and fatiguing for me...i wanted to see if i could desaturate it but didn't mess with it.
Of course i saw a beautiful Elite 1080P Plasma unit for 7K.
I think what i am going to have to come to grips with is that my budget($2500) will force me to compromise somewhere...it's just a matter what it is i'll be resigning myself to put up with.
You have to play with the settings. The sonys are set of full blast, sort of a "flame mode". Most people change every setting at home. The 1080p plasmas are nice, I debated a 65" for my family room, but I'll wait for now.
Have fun,
Jack
Hitachi has 55 inch plasma's you can get for around 2500 inc. stand on the tv,i bought a 42 very nice pic,and as far as reflections does very well even in a bright room.
