Well,I finally gave into my relentless desires! I bought the Sony Bdp-s1.
I think I paid a pretty good price for it $690ttt out the door new w/video (hey, $30 value right?), anyway..it's water under...Haven't recieved it yet however, will soon and very much looking foward to watching it on the 60" XBR2 LCoS. I'll be fine with DD and DTS for now, hell I'd have to buy a new reciever anyway. I know they'll drop even lower in price later on, but hey what can I say I bought the 7000es, 9000es (not technically 1st gen) and now this one...hopefully, someone doesn't blow me out of the water with some terrible news on this post...lol

Thanks, I just saw that. It figures right! :)> I still think I didn't do too bad on the S1's price. The new player will also play CD's, which is great since that's the reason many people we're turned off by the unit, but not an issue for me. I'm very happy with my current Cd playback capability. I wonder though if by the time of it's release it will offer any new capabilities/technologies, they're saying it suppose to have the same capabilities as the S1 now, but who knows for sure. I highly doubt that it will have the same robust look and feel as the S1 and I'm sure it's going to be geared a bit more mainstream. Lower prices usually mean cuts somewhere. I just hope that it doesn't offer an additional HDMI output connection or potentially 1.3.
Good for you. That's a very good price. Stock up on movies. Best buy has "buy 1 get 1 free" sales periodically, But generally Amazon is the cheapest. Their normal price is 30% off, plus they have a special deal for an extra 10% off for a year.
I was debating getting a BR player, but after seeing their list of announced titles, I decided to hold off on it.
Enjoy,

PS3's are the same price as any where else. I happened to get a great deal on a Bdp-s1. If your comfortable shopping ebay you can get some really good deals if you watch it. IMO I choose the Bdp-s1 because of it's high end attributes. If you're familiar with Sony's es line you will know that they seem to put more into the higher end units such as descreet circuitries, noise reducing chasis, maybe oxygen free wiring...etc...for better overall performance, but I wouldn't discredit the PS3 because of all the things that you can do with it, it's my understanding that it's a fine player with all the extra options it offers.

Not if you're in Australia like three–sox and I.Quoted recommended retail for a PS3 over here is around the $900-1000 Australian mark and our dollar is currently worth about 79 c US. In round figures, that's about $720-800 US which, I think, is about 50% higher than recommended retail in the US.
The PS3 goes anywhere from $599-$1000(for the 60gb). like I said sometimes you can catch a break on eBay if you watch it.
BDA is going to change their specs (or at least its requirements) in June, to include interactivity via their BD-J.
