In Reply to: anybody had chance yet to compare movie pcm soundtracks to its dolby digital/dts equivalent on blu-ray discs? posted by jeromelang on March 8, 2007 at 01:49:22:
It did sound really good; but it should have given the system. I was auditioning the LG combo player which is looking like a good option because it'll play both HD formats.I wasn't thinking about the new HD audio formats because I don't plan on upgrading to HDMI receiver or preamp/pro anytime soon, nor have I planned a 7 speaker/amplification system. Nevertheless, my interest just shot up a notch. We were feeding analog 5.1 from the LG to pre/pro with fairly modest audio cabling and it still sounded pretty durn good.
My only concern with the LG (and perhaps most of the other Blu-ray players?) is the possible inability to support 7.1 in the future. Still a "research in work".

I want one too!
and probably no prospects for HDMI 1.3 support. I have to decide whether I want to pay more than a Grand on a player I'm probably going to have the itch to replace within 3 years time (assuming I actually upgrade the pre/pro and add the two extra channels and add a 1080p display ...).Same is true with virtually every other Blu-ray player out there TODAY. The PS 3 is the cheapest option but then I'm not likely to have anything better than DD/DTS 5.1 for years if I go this route.
