In Reply to: Best Way to Convert RF into S-Video posted by Victor on April 12, 1999 at 06:30:19:
Well, I've heard of the composite to S-video converters, about $100 by some company called Tributaries, but never heard of RF to S-video. I wonder if it is worth it because the color stream has already been blended to form the RF, how would one improve the video by converting it to S-video? Unless you're converting simply to match plugs and then I'd think a VCR would do fine, if equipped. Maybe Rat Shack has a RF to composite converter, then you can get the composite to S-video converter, maybe there is a RF-S-video in one box but i don't think it's that popular...

Would you have any info on this company?

The idea is not really to improve it, but to simply connect the cable converter (RF output) to an all S-video system without buying a new VCR.
Thank you,
Victor.
tributaries also makes one of the best s-vid cables around. the company was started by two guys from McIntosh.
Tributaries has a website on it... :
http://www.tributariescable.com/tributaries.html
Then click on the "Specialty cables" and look at the top item the "C2S".
I think you might be able to run down to a radio shack or equivalent to see if they have a RF to composite converter. I know they have one for the other way around, it's something called an RF modulator, but I think it's only for composite to RF, not the other way around. But that is only $30.

... be doing is passing the RF signal thru essentially a complete TV receiver and going thru all the steps needed up to that point. You will be duplicating the functionality of what is before it.
This is not simply a "conversion" but exactly the opposite of what RS's modulater does.
