my surrounds are positioned about 3.5 ft above and directly to the sides of my viewing area. they are direct radiating speakers and "i don't have the option of moving them" but i do have the option, because of the mounting brackets to rotate them either forward or rearward or leave them where they are now (firing directly across the viewing area at each other) are there any suggestions on the best position?

I would suggest trying rearward, but slightly angled in towards the room. Also, have you considered pointing them upwards and trying to bounce the sound off of the ceiling. Remember to choose some program material with good surround effects that you are familiar with to test the positioning.Roger K.
I might try rearward, but not forward. My guess would be that with both DPL and DD material, you already have them positioned optimally for least localization.RichardH
