Absolutely, some are worse than others, but I haven't seen any of mine that looked bad--lucky, I guess.Sure wish it didn't overscan; the highest actual aspect ratio I've measured* on a Panavision film (Tom Hanks's 'Big') is 2.20, which means the TV is hiding about 3/4" per side. Maybe there's an overall-width control in this one.
.* Obsessive? Compulsive? WHO, ME? Just because I've remeasured the AR of EVERY DVD in my cabinet doesn't mean I'm obsessed with this stuff!...much. :-)

Overscanning is common. DVE has a screen that lets you see just how much your set overscans.

Developed by an ace ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) technician to fine tune your display via your home DVD player - test patterns etc.
Some folks have a pro calibrate their sets in home to get the most from their displays but even us "amachoors" can adjust our sets for better performance using the Video Essentials disc. "essential" fpor getting the picture a top notch display is capable of. Tweaky types can have a blast.
