Video Asylum

I just got an Oppo 970, and I can't get the remote to work. The player works OK from the front panel. I tried two sets of new alkaline batteries.

Actually, the remote is putting out IR. My Velodyne sub's remote sensor flashes in response to IR, and the Oppo remote makes it flash. I also get noise on an AM radio when I press the buttons. Any ideas? I sent e-mail to OPPo but I imagine they are off on the weekends.
