An idiotically stupid question :
I have ordered an Oppo 981 Universal DVD player. I'll also be getting a Panasonic 42" plasma tv (42PX75U). The tv has 2 hdmi inputs. My cable box has hdmi, but not my Marantz AV receiver.
I intend to hook up the Oppo and cable box via hdmi for video. But how do I defeat the audio portion so that I can get the audio through coax or optical?
(i told you it was a stupid question - LOL).
Follow Ups:
i used the oppo and found it works best with the component cables as the hdmi is not recognizing sound on some hdmi devices.
In the Oppo's menu system for audio, there are 3 options for HDMI audio: LPCM, Auto and OFF. Choose OFF and you can use the S/PDIF connection for digital audio to your receiver and still get HDMI video for the plasma. The user manual is available for download at Oppo's site if you want to get familiar with the player before it arrives. The cable box should have a similar option in its setup menu.
First, you may want to run coax digital out of your OPPO, and set it using set up to use the digital out. Or they may both be on??
Also, some sets with 2 HDMI in are actually one HDMI and one DVI to HDMI; the DVI signal does not carry the audio so your box or Oppo could use the DVI out for the picture (no loss of PQ), and the accompanying audio out straight to the receiver.
