in my area (Hampton Roads VA) since all the local broadcast antennas are in one area, inland from the coast. I happened to luck out, using a CM 4228, getting all the locals with a decent signal. But others in the area aren't so lucky. Reading AVS's local OTA/HD boards for our area, some folks lose the signal when the trees grow leaves, or when the jets fly by (from the local Oceana Naval jet base)!
Luckily we have cable, dish, and Verizons to take up the slack.
Best programming move I ever made was installing this sucker and buying the TiVo Series 3. I'm never paying a cent to those dish and cable robbers again.

I had OTA HD for a while, with mixed results; one being the inability to pull in PBS in HD.
My house is in a small valley with a hill between me and the stations. I can get the networks, and a few independants, but PBS is iffy at best.

Traditionally, rabbit ears are small, portable "rabbit ears" that goes on top of TV's.The subject of the article are really proper, fixed, on-roof, over-the-air HD antennas, which are SWEETTTT! I highly recommend one to get all the HD programming you want over the air for free!
You don't need to build it or DIY, as pre-made HD antennas are pretty cheap, such as the fantastic Channel Master 4228 http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ANTENNAS/cm4228.html
both indoor "rabbit ears" and outdoor are discussed.
Good to see an article pointing to the fact that some broadacsters are compressing
HD quite heavily to try and squeeze as much as they can over limited bandwidth.
I find it bizzare that in the year 2007 OTA would be the best way to get a HD signal
into your home.
go rooftop antennae.

Is watching old "Avengers" and "Benny Hill" shows unpatriotic?
If anything, BBC America is dumbed down. It could be much better.
