I am curious to see if I can receive the HD channels through
my existing cable. I have Time Warner with all of the analog
tiers, but none of their cable boxes. I know that you need
to have their box to receive/decode most of their digital
cable channels. The TV I am looking at has the QAM tuner
built in so I am curious to see if I will receive them
from my existing cable. I guess it boils down to whether
TWC is putting the local HD channels in some other digital
channel assignment that only their box will decode or
in their normal assigned HDTV channel slot.

There really is no reason for them not to allow the locals to come through via a digital signal. I'm sure they know there are people like us that don't use a box. Like I said, i think they are required to give you your locals. Be aware, that they will ot be where you expect them though, but you'll find them. Mine are spots like 103.1, 105.3, 108.11, 64.3 etc.
