DVD is not a replacement for a VCR. This guy wants a new VCR. Unless he wants to keep the price below $200, I'd advise an S-VHS VCR. Between $2-300, there is the JVC S7600, the Sharp 101 and the Toshiba W808.If he wants to keep the price close to $100, the GE VR4274 is a good bet.
Much depends on what features he's used to, and which ones are actually necessary. With this information, I could get a lot closer to a useful answer.
I suggested a VCR smart ass I just gave him some advice towards DVDeventually DVD WILL be a replacement for a VCR, just like cd vs tape it's slowly become exstinct
