Any comments on how good the 2800 or 3300 is on music?Denon has a rep for having warm amps.
Is 2 channel music on the 2800/3300 tinny or sharp? ie Yamaha receivers.
I've narrowed my search down to Denon 3300 (warm?), NAD 760 (remote only controls NAD line), Marantz SR7000, SR8000.
Thanks!
Take a listen to the Onkyo TX-DS777 it has a direct mode which by-passes all tone and DPS modes for critical listening. The 5-ch stereo works like a charm also, I use it about half of the time.
I haven't listened to the Marantz but do have an older Denon AVR 2700 and I am very please with it. I did audition a Yamaha, NAD and some Rotel amps but not Marantz. I liked the Denon best and feel it is a very good product however it depends on what you like and what the rest of your system is. As for the brighness one poster commented on, in my set up there isn't any brightness which leads me to beleive there may be another component responsible for the brighness or the overall system synergy is one that produces brightness. Good luck!
I auditioned the AVR3300 side by side with the Marantz SR7000 where it counts..at home.
Haven't heard the Yamaha's their 'bright' reputation was enough to scare me away.
Many characterize the Denon as 'warm'. I guess the definition of 'warm' can be a subjective thing but I found the Denon on the bright side. Very nice piece of equipment but too bright...for me.
The Marantz not quite so bright, the most musical I heard in that price range, IMO.
I went for an SR19, but the SR7000 & AVR3300 are both nice. Listen to make sure that there are no characteristics, sonic or otherwise, that may drive you crazy later. The wisest advice I ever got...base your decisions on the downside, don't let the charming upside fool you into getting the wrong thing.
What are you using for speakers at home? I'm an eagerly awaiting a SR-7000 so I can start my vacation from hifi."base your decisions on the downside" thats really good advice, I might have to apply that logic to my audio purchases in the future.
Best regards,
Bernard
I'm running KEF 104.2's as my mains. I'm basically turning my existing 2 channel system into HT .
The KEFs are efficient at 92db but are a 4 ohm speaker. I'm no technical wiz but my understanding is that they will be harder to drive than 8 ohm speakers.
The SR7000 had no trouble running these, in fact I may still get the SR7000 and pair it with my existing two channel power amp, thereby saving a lot of money.
That SR19 sounds so damn nice on its own, though.....
Coming from the "receivers are crap" side of the tracks,(but budget is forcing me in this direction) I have been pleasantly surprised at how good some current receivers can be. Either things have improved or my old system wasn't as good as I thought it was.
I have the Denon 3300. It's a blast! The quality and the response of the sound rival that of its big brother the 5700. I found it to be warmer and clearer than the NAD. But that is my preferance. I have noticed that it like/needs high quality cables to really purr.Find a highend store and go listen. Nothing worse than not getting what your ears like.
I hear ya. Did you listen to the Marantz SR7000 when shopping? Thanks
Alas, I did not. I pearsonally have had good and medium luck with Marantz. Its good stuff but I wanted to try something different. Again the best bet....Listen with you ears. Good Hunting.
