I also own the Philips and am very pleased with its sound in my reasonably revealing system. 12 years ago I owned another Philips cd player, the 414, which was a hundred fifty dollars at Wal-mart and which even Absolute Sound acknowledged as a pretty good performer. I recall that a tweak company did a mod to it that cost three times more than the player. I bring this up to make the point that Philips seems to just do a superior job with their digital players. Is it because they helped invent the technology? Perhaps. Is it due to their heritage as a producer and distributor of superior lp's and cd's? Maybe. Whatever the reason they are clearly doing something very, very right, and I would urge anyone shopping for a dvd/cd player to look very closely at this unit.
