Forgive my ignorance folks but I'm a little confused about DTS. I have
a Denon AV Receiver, which has a six-channel input for DTS and other
sources. It has a Dolby Digital Decoder, but not a DTS decoder. If I
buy a DVD player with a built in decoder and plug it into this input,
will I be able to play the DTS signal.
Many DVD players have a built in Dolby Digital decoder, but few have built in DTS decoders. You must have a DTS decoder to play DTS discs. You could always add an external DTS decoder, if you desire.I for one really prefer DTS over Dolby Digital. I believe the discs are much more dynamic and just in general sound better.
I spent a bit more $ and got the Denon 3300.. thinking that I needed DTS. As it turns out I have yet to see anything in DTS. There is a indicator that tells you that the DTS signal is present. Still waiting......Most likely you won't miss anything.
did you just buy the 1600? if you do not intend on buying dts encoded
dvd's as they are more expensive and don't really show up in rentals you are better of buying a regular dvd player like the pioneer 525.
i don't know off hand how many dvd players there are with BUILT-IN
DTS PROSCESSING. be careful because most of ther players will be capable of PASSING THROUGH DTS signals but not PROSCESSING. add to the higher cost of a dvd with built-in processing three pairs of good interconnect to the receiver.
you might be better off buying the next level of denon like the 2800 with dts and pre-outs for future expansion if you could exchange the 1600. skimping on the receiver now might cost you more later.
If you buy a DVD player with a built-in DTS decoder you'll be fine. In fact, you could hook it up both digitally and analog, so that you could use the DD decoder in the receiver and the DTS decoder in the DVD player.Unless you really have the need for DTS (who really does?), you could save some money by forgoing it for now and getting a regular DVD player, then later when you upgrade the receiver (might not, just speculating) you'll have it.
I personally have a Denon DD receiver (no DTS), and don't have the need/want for it. I don't want Eagles Hell Freezes Over, and I am not going to buy Saving Private Ryan, DTS or DD.
Just my thoughts.... BTW, which Denon receiver do you have? I have the 1700.
