Many DVD players have a built in Dolby Digital decoder, but few have built in DTS decoders. You must have a DTS decoder to play DTS discs. You could always add an external DTS decoder, if you desire.I for one really prefer DTS over Dolby Digital. I believe the discs are much more dynamic and just in general sound better.
