ok folks, i have talked my wife into letting me start putting together a HT system (i already have a 300B SET system for audio which i love). so my question is given a limit of $1500+- total for TV and DVD, what should i be looking at?i want a 32" TV w/ component video capabilities and a decent single DVD/CD player (ie not multi-disc). on the short list are lowest end Sony Wega 32" TV (w/o pip etc.) for $1300 and a Panasonic 32" w/ component video for $1000. obviously the Sony option leaves me short end on looking at DVD players... but i was looking closely at the Pioneer 525. the Panasonic TV route gives me more options like a Denon DVD player, Yamaha, or higher quality Pioneer. is there a whole lot of picture quality difference between these players a DVD "novice" like me will notice? what is the point of diminishing returns between a $200 DVD player and a $500-$600 DVD player.
thanks for any thoughts.
I wouldn't get the sony unless you have to have the flat screen, I find the picture to be grainy and two dimentional. This is my experience with XBR's, I'm sure the standard series are worse. The panasonic superflat and the toshiba cinema series are both nice IMO. As for DVD's; the audio quality is what differentiates the sub $600 players, If you have a decent CD player already then go with a cheaper DVD player(although I'm leary of the 525's seemingly 1.5 pound weight). I wish you luck. Peace, Tim.
Hello, go for a high quality t.v. and get a $300 dvd player, the picture quality is the same on a 300 player (with a decent brand) and a 1200 dollar player most of em will pass the DTS signal but will not decode it, DD important.?, optical connections, s-video out, component video out these are all options make sure you know what you want before you look, check the net you can find alot of info
Chili-My advice is to go with the WEGA if flat screen is important to you. The WEGA is a beautiful set and you won't notice a whole lot of difference in DVD players past a certain point. Unless you're stepping up to a MERIDIAN, THETA, PROCEED, etc., a $300 player will look within a hair as good as a $600 player. The main difference here is features. My advice would be to go with a WEGA/Pioneer 525 combo or if flat screen isn't important to you (and you want to save a little $$$) check out a Toshiba cinema series TV with a Toshiba SD-1200 dvd player. I personally like TOSHIBA's TV's best, but that WEGA is very tempting.
hope this helps
