Invest for DVD not Broadcast HDTV-- broadcasting won't happen in an acceptable form for a while.1) broadcasters are not interested in HDTV, they are interested in taking the FCC mandated bandwidth and dividing it 6 ways, so that you would have: ABC Sports, ABC News, ABC Stocks, ABC Weather, ABC shopping, etc... all digital at current resolution. Broacasters have nothing to gain with higher quality.
2) invest for DVD playback: any set that will do 500 vertical lines and 16:9 should be fine.
3) buy a direct view CRT-- the quality is better. The cost should be $4000. I have seen the Samsungs, the Sony's, the Panasonic's, and the Loewe. I like the Panasonic Tau the best.
4) Decoders aren't worth it.
