hi,i have a 2 channel stereo system and also 2 speakers + amp (an old 2 channel system :)) for surrounds. I currently have a sony ep9es which is long in the tooth and the L/R channel balance is going.
I'm looking for something that is equal or better than the sony ep9es and does DTS. It can be a dedicated processor or even a receiver (my amp for the surrounds is very old and going any moment). If i buy a receiver, i will use the amp part only for the rear speakers.
Any suggestions on any processor / receiver option that betters the Sony EP9ES. I don't want it to cost too much (especially the processor, since I will not use it as a pre-amp for my music, which is why something like the Accurus ACT3 is a bit too pricey)?
I've heard of the Marantz AV-560 processor but not much has been written about it. Then I've heard a lot about the Denon AVR-3300....
As I do not have a centre channel, it is critical that the receiver/processor can do Phantom centre channel for DTS. I have heard that the Denon's do not have phantom centre channel for DTS (only DD).
Any comments etc appreciated.
What's your budget Erwin? For around the $1K price point you can get any of the following preamp/processors (new):Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080
Parasound AVC-1800
Rotel RTC-965
