A friend of mine is about to purchase one of those Aiwa boom boxs (small sub and 4 little speakers) for his HT use. He lives in an apartment, so he can't have anything to powerfull. I thought that he could prob do better though. Unfortunately, I know nothing of HT....that's where you all come in.
He needs to keep it under 700.00 for receiver and speakers. He already has a dvd and 32" tv.
The only thing I could think of was the Energy take 5 (?), but I figured so many new products have come out since then.Any help would be appreciated
Thanks, Jeff
I have several friends who over the last year and a half have bought new HK gear and I will wholeheartedly recommend buying anything but. After their experiences (100% failure rate so far) I'm sure the HK outlet is full to overflowing. I don't know what has happened to this company but they seem to be turning out crap piled on crap.
A good source for speakers and other HT components at a reasonable price if you are patient is UBID.com. I picked up Klipsch synergy speakers for 77 each. They are superb speakers. An 8" sub was 60 bucks. A great center was 57 bucks. They have recievers also.Email me if your friend would consider a full set of Celestion speakers that I retired recently.
I know that alot of people at this board would find the following system unacceptable, but it would come in under $700, which ain't exactly easy for a full set up. You can get a Klipsch Quintet speaker set with five speakers and a sub brand new for around 500-550 on Ebay. Then, go to the harmanaudiooutlet.com and pick up a refurbished reveiver for about $150. I know it wouldn't be the ultimate home theater, but it would blow away aa Aiwa home theater in a box system.
FYI, Energy Take 5 retails at $1500. My advice to you is buy used equipment. If you look in the right places, ebay for example, you could come away with some great deals. You may want to check local av shops that take in trades, they may have some decent equipment available. If you can't find what you are looking for, if I were your friend I would seriously consider buying a lower end Denon, Yamaha, or Onkyo for $550 and spend the remaining $150 on headphones. Then I'd suggest saving some money for the eventual purchase of the Take 5s...
600.00 about six months ago at audiogone...Sh*t. I'll have to start paying more atten to the pre owned sites.
I think that he'll have to settle for the Awia HT in-a-box route. Thanks,
Jeff
The Energy Take 5 system with the 8" sub can be purchased from http://www.soundpros.com for $595.00 with delivery included in continental US.My understanding is that this is a fairly reputable dealer but you may want to check with audiosurvey.com to verify this.
Hope this helps,
Jet
I stand corrected. List price for the Take 5's are $500.00. That's MSRP. I'm sure you could do better. I gave you the list price for Energy's Encore System $1500.00. Sorry!!!
Fellas,I have a nice M&K MX-70B. It is the tightest sub I have ever heard. But, the problem is, I have just moved into an apartment. How do I keep that thing from making so much noise on the floor, without compromising my sound quality?
Thx!
