I want to convert my RF signal out of my marantz laser disc player to a coax or fiber optic connection. I need it to be full digital AC-3. Is there such a device or a work around my problem. Thanks
The item you're looking for is called an RF demodulator.
It converts the RF output (radio frequency) from the laserdisc player to digital and transfers via coaxial or optical cable. These units are becoming harder and harder to find as dvd continues to push lasers out of the marketplace. I picked one up from a seller at Audiogon's
website back in February. You might want to check out Audiogon and Audioweb for sellers. I have the Yamaha ADP-1
Rf demodulator (list $99) but I believe Yamaha stopped producing them, in fact I'm not sure anyone is still making outboard demodulators anymore. Used market is your best bet. Yamaha,Pioneer,Marantz all had reasonably priced units. B&K,Lexicon and EAD also made RF demodulators but these are far more pricier ($499-$699) too much in my opinion.
Be aware I've seen the Yamaha(list $99) go for up to $150 used. Thats how valuable these units have become. I consider myself fortunate to have gotten mine for $75 used.Good luck and happy hunting!
