The new center channel I just purchased sounds pretty good, but I'm using 18 ga. speaker cable (Radio Shack) and I was curious as to whether I can make if sound better with a higher end speaker wire than what I'm using. Any suggestions?
How long is the run? 5ft or less should be ok. But it is safer to use 14gage, generic, unless it is very long, then go 12gage.
Personally, I find that with a medium to high quality speaker, cables do make an audiable difference and the cable for the center channel should ideally be the same make, model, and length as the front L/R speaker cables to help achieve the closest possible true timbral matching.
The cable run for a center channel is quite short. A good quality 12 gauge speaker wire should do the trick just fine.
