I'm in the process of upgrading from 25" TV/Dolby ProLogic/VCR to 32" screen/Dolby Digital & DTS/DVD. The 32" Toshiba I want is about 5" taller than the 25" RCA and as it will sit in front of a window I'm afraid the wife will nix. However, if I place the center channel speaker UNDER the TV in my home entertainment center on a stand I will design and build to angle up toward the listening position, that won't be an issue. Will this affect the sound significantly? Will it hamper the all-important dialogue and center effects, and if so, how much? Thanks . . .
While at first I thought it would lead to worse sound, putting the center speaker under my TV turned out to give better sound.Perhaps part of this relates to being closer to reflective surfaces on both sides (vertically), but part of it also was psychoacoustical as I felt the voices melded with the moving mouths better from this position. Go figure.
Try both ways -- moving speakers around is the cheapest tweak you'll find.
I have it above my TV now and it's way too high. It's definitely not at the same level as my L&R fronts. I'll be buying one of these to solve the problem, which places it below the TV:http://www.diamondcase.com/MUNARI/M110/M110.HTML

I have my speaker above the TV. In fact, all three of the fronts,LCR, set a 45 inches high. I tried below with pointing up , but the on top really sounds great.
I got my Center Channel placed on top of my 27" t.v. this seems to work nicely the dialogue is excellent and crystal clearthe center speaker needs to be placed and aimed towards the listening positin it's ok if it is a little high or low just above would be adaquate or as close as possible if it's off by i bit won't make the world of difference
I've got my center set up as you describe and I think it sounds more natural than having voices coming from above the screen.
