Guys,I need a new HT receiver. I have always been loyal to Denon, but I am open now to anything that sounds better. What is the best sounding HT receiver for HT, and music, around 2G's?
I also am wondering what the differences in the Marantz SR-18, and 19 are. I mean, I know the specifications, but what is the real sonic difference? Is it worth a GRAND to get that sonic improvement over the 19?
What else is on the horizon in the 2G range?
Thx!
B
The Denon 4800 rates very high. I'm considering the Marantz SR-8000.
Add the MM-9000 five channel amp, would still be in your price range,
and sound's as good as the 18, if not better. It all depend's on the feature's your looking for.
Your budget would allow for good separates, allowing for more flexibility and probably better sound IMO.
I haven ot heard the newest generation of MArantz receivers, but own their SR-96, which was the flagship before DD. It was completely blown away by upgrading the amp section to a separate. Now I will soon replace the pre as well (and expect even bigger sonic gains).
Outlaw will have a pre/pro out soon, you can also find other units with all the bells & whistles for around $1k (or less if you consider used).
5 Channel amps are plentiful & very good in the $1k range.
Don;t forget to budget for another IC from pre to amp, but other than that cost I think separates afford you better quality for your $$$DG
Yes, that's a great answer. I have been looking at Audiogon and a few other sites. Audio Advisor has a Marantz Dolby Digital processor for $400 and includes the RC200 remote ($250). Audiogon has numerous multi amps for under $1000. I did notice 5 Marantz monoblocks at $175 each and some carver AV705's for around $500. If you have some old interconnects laying around you could put together a $2500 system for around $1000.Good luck,
KAK
