In Reply to: Why is D-VHS dissapearing? posted by Dan G. on June 23, 2000 at 12:18:01:
Oh, maybe because DVD-R (recordable) has been "promised"
before the end of the year.
From people I have talked to, it seems they make more money (through subscription fees, etc.) is you have a Tivo or Replay TV.
They want consumers to be dependant upon them, rather than promoting the D VCR'sdg
Thats true too, my friend just purchased a Replay unit with 20hrs recording time. I don't know why he bought it (just has to spend money all the time I guess), he knows
that DVD-R is around the corner. Philips,Panasonic and Sony all had prototypes on display a couple of months ago.
The really crazy thing is that he has had that JVC satellite/D-VHS unit for over a year now and yet he bought
the Replay unit. He's a videonut.
