These will self update their own firmware so they will be able to play any movie when it comes out. The encryption changes because it's always being busted so they are changing it on the fly.
We'll have to agree to disagree about human caused global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along.
#1 You don't need an ethernet port to apply a firmware update. Players can be updated via CD or, in some cases, a USB port.
#2 Even if you do have an ethernet port, you don't have access to a firmware update until the manufacturer makes it available. And that would be the same time it's avalable to be downloaded and put on a CD or sent over a USB connection to a player that didn't have an ethernet connection.
A player can still have internet access, without being video profile 2.0 (BD Live). While its mandatory for 2.0, it can have the connection without the 2.0 interactivity/features, to be upgradable.
