Hi Fellow Inmates,Does anyone know of good quality flat speaker cables?
Am in the process of tidying up my home theatre. Rear Speakers are being mounted on the ceiling and cables in the wall but we have parquetry floors and a large carpet square. I want to tidy everything up so that the only cables to the front aray are one S-Video to the TV and three speaker cables.
System comprises of:
Pioneer DVL-909 DVD/Laser Combi Player
Pioneer CT-95 Cassette Deck
Onkyo TS-DX777 DD/DTS/THX Receiver
B&W Matrix 805 Front L/R (Rotel RB-991 from Pre-outs)
b&w Matrix HTM Centre
Boston Acoustics VRS-Pro Dipole Surrounds
Musical Fidelity X-24K DAC
" " X-PSU
" " X-Link
Monster Speaker Cables (the cheap ones)Subwoofer
I would like to add a Subwoofer and at this stage the obvious choice would be a second hand B&W Matrix 800ASW
I am prepared to compromise and buy a cheaper Sub at this stage and get a proper one when funds permit.
There are a couple of Sub's made locally such as Krix, a speaker range which has had some good reviews on AudioReview.com, have also considered M&K as they have reasonable priced but I was hoping to get something cheaper in the meantime.
Appreciate if anyone could recommend a good match at a reasonable price.
Most of the system is THX at this stage but that is not necessarily an issue.
Rang B&W in the UK and they suggested ASW2000 but it is a bit expensive in Australia so that would be on the future upgrade list at this time.
Appreciate any help/advice anyone can offer.
Thanks in advance.
I have a reccomendation about subs. If you go to: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/masterindex_toc_main.html
you will find a review of the Velodyne HGS 18 along with a good assortment of high grade subs. I think the velodyne is the best they have made to date and is mid-priced for a good sub. If you compare performance you won't find a sub to beat it for either music or theater. I wish I had one but I don't have the setup you do. I also think you should look at Nordost for very good flat speaker wire. Consider Red Dawn as well as the other models. Nordost has a link at the site I listed above.
Hi,
there are a couple if choices. Goertz ( i believe) makes flat cable; Nordost definitely does, take a look at their Solar WInd or Blue heaven.
I would not buy a cheap sub. Throw the money in a sock or something until the time is right. Putting a cheap sub with a 805 will be like having a drunk show up at a dinner party; a regrettable experience.
Thanks,I will check out those cables and will also take your advice re the sub. I had the (mis) fortune to hear a couple of subs today from the cheaper end of the scale during my lunch break and you are right - I could imagine how all the buzzes and boominess would definitely not compliment the 805's. I will start saving for that M&K or the second hand 800ASW.
Thanks again.
