In Reply to: Pioneer DV-09, and CD playback... posted by Snodog on August 03, 2000 at 13:27:32:
I just connected my DV-09 and like you was pleased with the results. Got mine on sale also. I am using a silver starlight III digital connect and also have the RCA analog L & R connected becasue I was told when playing a CD to use the analog outs. Well I really don't hear any difference when I switch back and forth. How is yours connected? I am using a Sunfire Processor Theater Grand II. I believe when you try and compare other CD players to this unit, I think that they will sound a little better only if all the other components are at a comparable level. Krell with Onkyo is not going to work....I guess. Really, in all my experience the differences are rather small....unless you upgrade the whole system. Be happy with the Pioneer DV-09 it is a solid unit that gives great sound on CD or DVD.
Follow Ups:
My DV-09 is connected via Tributaries 150's (silver analog interconnects) to a simple McIntosh C15 stereo preamp, and then to my Active/20's (Paradigm) via another pair of Tributaries 150's. I don't have a full-blown hometheater setup. A Tributaries SCV-S S video cable connects the video to a Sony Wega (which btw has crummy built-in audio, but how to satisfy an audiophile?). Good to hear you like the playback as well! I should get a TV to do the DV-09 justice, like a Loewe, but alas I think I've spent enough moolah!
If your unit is new. You'll need to break it in then do some serious listening. Mine is about 1 yr old and I had a chance a/b it against my Sony SCD777ES in my two channel system and I still keep the Sony as well as the DV-09 in my h/t. The DV-09 with red book CDs is just about class B rated at best IMHO. When you hooked up the DV-09 anlog outs to your pre/pro, just make sure your pre/pro has a analog by-pass. Otherwise the analog signals from DV-09 has been converted to digital then analog again by your prepro. As for DVD movies playback, DV-09 is the KING!
I don't think the Sunfire Grand Theater II has an analog bypass. That being the case, is there any reason for me to use the analog outputs of my DV-09 when playing a cd?? Just kind of going back and forth in the analog digital area?? Appreciate any comments. Yes, this Pioneer has wonderful DVD performance. I am very pleased.
Do not use the DV-09's analog outs if your prepro does not have analog bypassed. Keep all signal to your prepros to a minimum will give the best sound. Good luck!
Thanks, Tom for responding to this matter. Yes, I will remove the analog inputs to my processor and use exclusively the digital input from the Pioneer DV-09. The people in the stereo store did not know how to respond to my questions....very disappointing.
