Video Essentials addresses this very issue as well. Shawn's (grey) suggestion is not the first time I've read it. I plan to use a shade of grey in my room when I'm up to the task of moving everything prior to painting. Good luck with your project!

Many thanks to all....I took last week off to paint and install new carpet....In all honesty I didn't get to read your responses until today. Let me say I am truely impressed with what the colors have done for my picture quality. I previously had an off-white on the walls & ceiling. I now have a flat black ceiling with walls that are a flat "burnt peanut red" (which is similar to maroon). I also used a semigloss grey for the windows and the trim up between the ceiling and the walls. The carpet is a light/dark grey mix berber.
I used to be able to see some of the darkness between each pixel on my screen...That darkness has vanished now. It also looks so much more vibrant as well. I never would have dreamed the differences could be so dramatic by simply changing the colors in the room. Thanks again for everyones input.
