In Reply to: Pioneer DV-09, and CD playback... posted by Snodog on August 03, 2000 at 13:27:32:
Am not familiar with the Pioneer, but recently posted a review of the lowly RCA 5223P DVD player with respect to CD playback in the General Asylum. It blew the socks off my Arcam Alpha 8SE (which I proceeded to sell!) which, when the discounted price comes into play, probably sells for about 4 or 5 times what the RCA sells for. I cannot explain this, but I can tell you that with the RCA and Auric Illuminator, I'm rediscovering my CD collection and absolutely astonished at the sonic capability of this DVD player. My guess is that I'm getting performance pretty close to the Alpha 9, who knows, maybe better. Since the review, I have only become happier with my decision to use the RCA for audio duties as well. Read my review and look at my system in the inmates section for more details.
