I'm looking for a digital cable dynamic and forceful enough to provide the most dramatic and clear reproduction of DVD movie soundtracks in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. I would also be using this digital cable for rock, jazz and orchestral music so the more detail, transparency, dynamic range and sheer ``punch'' the better. Budget ceiling is $600.
Unfortunately I can't follow the axion of ``try before you buy'' because I live in Bangkok, Thailand so I have to order it from the US.
I'm wondering if the MIT Digital Reference, Harmonic Technology Platinum (or copper) Cyber-link or Cardas Lightning 15 might be the answer but haven't been able to hear any of them.
I realise how system-dependent cables are and I'm using a Denon 5000 DVD/CD player, a Denon AVR5700 as a pre-pro and Parasound HCA 2205 five-channel power amp with an M&K S-150 surround sound system with two M&K 350 THX subwoofers.Any recommendations would be a great help. Thanks in advance.
Follow Ups:
my experience in digital cables is based more on my interconnect between my cd player and my msb dac. i tried the illuminati d60 because i found a used half meter for 75.00 cnd but found no significant sound difference from a regular 25.00 cable. i tried the harmonic tech cybercopper which was 150.00 cnd new and found the music
sounding more defined and less fatiguing and just tighter on bass.
i could not justify paying the same amount for the harm tech with my pioneer dvd player to connect to my marantz receiver. the sound improvement over a cheaper cable like my 40.00 xlo was almost negligible
I'm using an Illuminations D60 and am very impressed. A very nice cord for about $250US. Maybe not the best for top-end audio systems but it kicks butt for HT.
I've used the Cardas and Wonderlinks and greatly prefer the Cardas. Many people swear by the Illuminati Orchid if you have an xlr connection. You might try a couple of stores in Bangkok -- there is a good one in the World Trade Center (3rd-4th floor if I recall down near the Isetan side) as well as a very good one across the road from the Planet Hollywood on that same corner (if you go across on the elevated walking bridge going away from planet hollywood and towards the shopping center you are entering on the second floor. Now go into the shopping center and take the first left that you can down the hallway and in the corner is an accuphase dealer (among other things) and he's got a good selection of cables and may have some you can try out.
good luck.
