A seven-year-old 21 inch Sony bedroom TV has developed a large purple blotch in the bottom r/h corner of the screen. This is on the screen whenever the set is on, regardless of program source. Could there be a simple explanation or does it mean the CRT has had it?
Thanks for your help.

Sounds like your TV is to close to a magnetic source (like your right speaker). If your right speaker is not sheilded and close to the TV set, then discoloration can occur.
There are unshielded JBL speakers nearby although they aren't being used. Of course they would still have a magnetic field. They are big floorstanders as well. I think you've solved the puzzle. In fact, I'm sure you have and will shift things around as soon as I get home. Thanks a lot.
