today, my Loewe Planus arrived, but from the outward appearances of the box, it looked like it had been retaped. so i opened the box w/ the delivery guys waiting, and saw that the contents looked as if they were previously on display as a floor model. since i had asked the salesperson if my loewe would be brand new in the sealed box, i was miffed. so the delivery person phoned the store, and the store personnel claimed that since there was a small puncture in the factory carton upon the store's receipt of the loewe, they opened it up to see if there was damage. but this didn't quite jive to the fact that it looked like the remote (w/ no wrapping on it) was merely thrown in the box, and the wrapping around the tv had just been thrown on top of the tv, w/o bothering to re-wrap it. i didn't see any manual, so i said "take it back." for a $2600 tv to arrive like this is unacceptable, guess i'll wait until the flat-screen version comes out, and buy from another dealer...
Follow Ups:
the salesman called me today (since he wasn't in at time of delivery), and apologized, and offered to get me a brand new factory sealed model straight from the ditributor, so this is what I chose...so sometime next week my brand-new Loewe should arrive! more info on the newer version coming out- should list for around $4K...a little bit more than I want to spend on a tv right now (well in the near future when it comes out)...ill keep ya posted...
What a drag - but you definitely did the right thing. I ordered my Panasonic 34" flat screen from dealmountain.com and was nervous that maybe they'd try something like that, especially when a bad cable gave me some picture problems... but it's all good now. It arrived in perfect condition, obviously never opened.I remember now why I ruled out the Leowe - it didn't have the flat screen. Reflections could be a problem in my house and I like to view from lots of angles so flat screen was very important to me. Good luck... Eric H
Loewe is coming out (or bringing) its flat screen/image version of the 30" widescreen Planus (called Anconda?) this October, and since I love my Wega's flat image, I think I'd like to wait anyway (blessing in disguise?)...I'll letcha guys know in the next few months if I get one of the new ones... : )
