Does anyone out there know if the MoFi LP pressing of Alan Parsons Tales of Mystery and Imagination is of the original recording or the remixing that they did in 1987? I love the remixed jazzed up version and would love to get my hands on a audiophile lp pressing of this if it exists?
Follow Ups:
I have the MFSL gold CD, but didn't know there were versions to answer. Can you give me a clue what to listen for?
The 1987 version adds new guitar solos and the piquant narration of Orson Wells and the horn section in the Cask of Amontillado is really snazed up and much better. This was done when it was released on CD, and Alan Parsons personally remastered the entire album. However I think that the MoFi CD was based on the original. I highly recommend that you listen to the remastered version, you will be quit impressed with the effort.
I like the Orson Wells, but the rest of the digital delay, and snare drums stick to hell. They ruined the album with that nonsense.
The original Vinyl with the rice paper inserts even has better thunder.
Thumbs down for the remastered version. IMNSHO.
Do yourself a favor, get the original vinyl. Much better, not the digital remastered horseshit.
...that during those years Alan Parsons had forgotten how the string orchestra really sounds. On a CD it sounds brighter than needed, while on an LP it was timbrally right.
I personally was most un-nearved about the "remix"...It sucks profusely, and the Orson...was a nice touch...right on guy !!
The difference can be ascertained by observing the cover art. The original release used the plain solid dark green field with album title and the new 1987 release used the multi-colored "apple peeling head art"
I think it might be the other way around, because me reissued CD is green and my original LP has the "apple peeling head art"
