I have the 34 HD1. It is the High definition set that has the 16.9 tube. Works great, and looks great with high definition broadcasts, even with standard broadcasts. However, these sets are VERY expensive.
Jay Leno and the Olympics, Sony must promote big time, but then again I'm aure part of that is built into the price hehheh. Nice tv though! a little bit too much for me though, but I love my Loewe.
I'm not sure what your getting at about the Jay Leno comments, but I agree that the set is expensive. Luckily for us, at the time it was purchased, we got it half-off, because my wife worked for Sony, and she ordered it from their company store.
and it has a great picture, especially for the money. i was in a store where they had a 32" XBR playing letterbox material from a PBS station broadcasting in HDTV, and on the top border's corner I noticed a dip fairly well. otehr than that, it looks like a great pic...and the XBR maintains resolution of letterbox material via compressing the lines of the TV, for something like widescreen DVD playback. but as far as regular non-XBR ones go, mine's been great (but now being sold due to my new Loewe Planus).
I have a friend with the 34" I believe. First off, it has a super picture; especially with good component video cables from a dvd player. His is about 6 months old and installed in a video armoire; no problems so far.
