I've had my 34" 16:9 directview TV a couple months now, and there's only one complaint I have: dark areas of the picture lose detail. Of course I've tried turning up the brightness, adjusting the color, etc., etc., with some success but I'm still not satisfied. Any tips on bringing details out of the dark areas? Would better cables or a power conditioner help? Thanks, Eric

Is your TV digital and expensive? If the answer is yes, you may try to call a local ISF technician in your area to recalibrate the tube picture. It's not cheap but it's definitely worth the cost.
you can get up early am and find SMPTE color bars, and do the proper adjustments with that on your screen...unfortunately, loss of detail in a monitor can be the use of cheap electronics to process and scale the video...you'll know if you set up with the color bars...see tektronix web site for a pretty good tutorial on color bars and how to use them
I haven't tried it because I don't have a DVD player. (I'm more into sports than movies...) Are there any calibrations that don't require a DVD player? I do have a VCR and DirecTV... Eric
