Does the sony have true 24bit/96khz digital output or does it downcovert to 48khz?
I thought I take this opportunity to vent my unhappiness with Sony products. I've just purchased a DVP-7700 from Sony's Employee Store last week, it arrived through UPS over the weekend without a receipt and the front panel was not operational. I took it back to their Employee store, and they would not give me a new one because I don't have a receipt and they wanted to charge me for the repairs. It's been a long time since I've own anything by Sony, and I don't think I want to buy anthing by Sony in the foreseenable future.
I suspect, however, that you can hear 24/96 from the analog outputs. This is an aural improvement over the 7000.
Ok, a lot of these DVD players (almost all of them, in fact) downconvert the digital output to 48Khz. Why? With the widespread availability of 96/24 compatible equipment, is this just a legacy backwards-compatibility thing biting us in the behind, or what? Why not offer the option in the setup menus?Or is this just an excuse to sell a higher-priced model with this "feature?"
C'mon, you mass market manufacturers, get a clue!
They don't want you to have access to a 24/96 digital signal.
