...where to get tech info on its operation? Or, how well it performs visually?clark

There's a TIVO forum (www.tivofaq.com) (which you can find a link to right on the official TiVo site, oddly enough), that either has the information you seek posted, or has someone that can answer your question for you. Among other things you can find out how to transform your stock TiVo into a 60 hour mega recorder!
Try www.tivo.com. In the best video mode (4 hour recording limt) it is stellar, better than s-VHS IMHO. I use one in my bedroom, not my HT. It is very convenient and easy to use. It integrates local broadcasts (cable or antenna) with DirecTV and provides a seamless simple remote your spouse will love (i.e., it sequentially goes through cable an DirecTV channels in order. They are not treated as seperate line inputs!). As for Home theater it has limitations, (e.g., no digital output, no Dolby Digital, etc.) I consider it one hell of a convenience device, that will compare well to a VCR. I don't use a VCR in my HT either.
