If your goal is the best sound -- your choice is the B&K Ref 30. It's an excellent pre/pro for the money, and you'll be hard pressed to find
better sonics under US$4K.The other nice feature is that all analog inputs (including the 5.1) can be used in "direct" mode, which means analog SACD and DVD-Audio inputs only have the volume control in the signal path.
You said music is important, and the B&K betters the Denon for stereo reproduction.
