I happily have the Denon 3300. There have been some complaints about this unit but I love it! However, before you get into the buying mood pick out several that you think that you be intrested in. Then go to audioreview.com and see what info and comments are available by actual owners.Even though I've had no problems with my Denon, after reading about some of the problems, I would know what to expect and what to look for.
There are many great units, and more choices and features than anyone would ever need. It is a big wide world and with a little research you can narrow it down to a coulple of choices. Which will help the decission process and reduce you decision time.
Best of luck

The Onkyo is good and the Outlaw is a good value, but my personal preference is Marantz. Its performance in Dolby Digital and DTS is at least as good as the others, but it REALLY excels in playing stereo music. If musical quality is important to you, the SR5000 is in your price range, especially if you're willing to buy from an internet mail order house. The SR5000 has Dolby Digital AND DTS and is rated at 70 watts for all five channels.I own a Marantz (the '9000' series separates) and have always loved them!!!
Hi Rayman, I'm a devoted Onkyo person. I've had Onkyo equipment for the last few years and have had no problems. They sound great and have a very musical and natural tone to them, with lots of guts!! Check into their TX-DS484 receiver, it's a nice unit and you can get it for around $250 or $300 I do believe. Then from there is the 575X which I think you can get for around $400 or so, you'll have to check around. If you're interested in either let me know and if I see them at a good price, I'll let you know. Go to Onkyo's website at
www.onkyousa.com
and check out the equipment. They've got a good site, very informative. Good luck on your quest!!! Peace SteveF
I would look at the Outlaw recievers. I have not heard them but they have gotten some good reviews. Seems logical to me that you could get more for your money for such a company that has no middle man.
Im looking at consumer models actually 3-$500.
Thank You
Ray
In that price range, stick with the Onkyo recommendation, or venture into a Nakamichi AV-8. It has DD but no DTS, however, the sound is fantastic.Robert
I agree that under $500 you have to go with Onkyo. Specifically the 575X model. It has the best HT processing chips in this price range and probably as many bells and whistles as anyone. If you want something more musical and built like a tank with pretty good HT processing see if Outlaw has any B stock of their 1050 receiver. They go for $499 with full 2 year warranty. They are just the returns that come back from their 30 day money back guarantee. If HT is your passion the Onkyo is the way to go.
any opinions ?

Hi Rayman,As one newby to another,I like Yamaha. Mine's a 5250(same as 596 I think?). Bought mine at Sears for $325 (list $499).They price matched the web, although I had to go to 2 stores to do it. Good bang for the buck!
Get the RXV-800 (around $800) it has a awesome amount of DIGITAL hookups. The best sounding too, It will last for years. Did I mention I have one?
I'd have to agree with that one. Yamaha makes some great units. I have the Yamaha RX-396 stereo receiver and that thing is great. It took a great beating. My friend also had it and he was the one that recomended it to me. He had JBL D-130s hooked up to that thing. For a receiver that is 50w x 2, it handled well with speakers of that power. I also recomend Mitsubishi AC-3 receivers. They are sweet and have a ton of A/V options. I recently purchased the MRV-800 model, and it is quite inpressive. Good luck.
