... do what you require as the audio DVD signal is redbook PCM, the same as on CDs. Just connect the digital out to a 2 channel processor. Caveat, not all processors are good so the choice must be done with care. When DVD-A comes out this will change and special processors will be required.John

..what I'd need is a decoder with the 5+1 outputs - no amplification, just outputs. I have the amplification and speakers to handle all the channels. The guys at electronic super stores don't think such an animal exists. Frankly I find the speakers included in most bundled home theater packages look like toys.
.... because the Meridian 568 & 861 are one of quite a few products that do just what you want. We have the 861 and it is incredible both on redbook PSM and HT. I believe the 568 is not far behind. The attraction of these processors is the ability to uinsert cards for new formats such as SACD, DVD-A etc.I could not agree with you more about speakers etc generally offered for HT.
