In Reply to: Has anyone heard the Sony TA-E900ES Preamp? posted by AudioGuy on November 28, 2000 at 18:03:10:
Sorry, I meant the TA-E9000ES preamp.
Follow Ups:
A friend of mine uses a 9000ES with def-tech bp3000's and it sounds amazing (to me at least) i got the 777ES which is basically the same thing for alot less money.. i dont know why they stopped making it but you can get them for around 1000 now..
The 9000ES is good for HT. For true audiophile music though it lacks the analog direct mode, which bypasses a/d processing, and feeds the analog signal diretly via the volume control to the power-amp.Amazingly enough, the 9000ES has been incorporated into the Son 777ES receiver (which recently has been discontinued, but you may still find one somewhere). In this receiver it serves together with the N9000 5 channel amp at a list price of only $1500 and street was close to $1000 in some cases. This receiver has analog direct, it sounds great for music, and comes with these powerful amps to boot.
Don't take my word for it, but check out the reviews at www.audioreview.com.

I had one for over a year, never had any problems, worked great. Excellent in 5.1 mode for movies. It was decent for 2 channel music. They are available for just over $1,000. new, give Uncle Stereo a call 800 978 6253.
I paid many times more for high end premaps, which sounded better in stereo, but none operated as logically, silently and flawlessly as the Sony. The parasound 2500 for roughtly $3,000 would be my next consideration at that price level.
Go to audioasylum.com and then to reviews, AV preamps, Sony tae9000 es. There is a string about 400 responses discussing this preamp.
